Stop Motion

Stop Motion is the age old method of shooting a movie one frame at a time. In most cases, miniature puppets are used on tiny sets.

These puppets have been made of clay, stuffed fabric, latex foam rubber, wood, and many other materials. Usually there is a skeleton, or armature, made of soft wire or machined parts. Facial expressions can be manipulated, sculpted out of clay, depicted with replacement parts, or not animated at all.

The puppets feet must be anchored to the ground when they walk and anything that flies must be suspended by rods or wires.

Photography of stop motion puppets used to be shot on film. Now digital photography is bringing stop motion photography into a new age.
